Global satellite launch volume and stock: the satellite launch volume in 2017 broke the historical record
 
According to the data released by the American satellite industry association, the number of satellites launched worldwide in 2017 was 345, a significant increase over 126 in 2016, breaking the historical record, mainly due to the significant increase in the number of small satellites and cube satellites. In 2017, 310 small satellites below 500kg were launched worldwide. SpaceX plans to launch 4425 small satellites by Falcon 9 rocket before 2024, Establish a low orbit satellite constellation to provide broadband services to users all over the world. With the development of new technology, the cost of designing and launching small satellites has been greatly reduced.
 
According to the records of the United Nations Office for Space Affairs (Unoosa), as of August 2018, a total of 4857 satellites were operating in earth orbit, an increase of 4.79% over 2017, including 1980 active satellites, accounting for about 40%. From January to August 2018, the United Nations Office for space research has recorded that 204 satellites have been launched into space, which is more than any year before 2013.
